- 99 -agriculture of MU, stayed at SJTU for one year to do joint research of anagricultural robots with the more brilliant success than was expected.In October 2004, Professor Nagata visited SJTU to renew the exchangeagreement, Associate professor Kikuto Kawasue and some others of Facultyof Technology visited there to promote the research of engineering robots.After the renewal of the exchange agreement, in 2005 and 2006, some MUteachers, officials and students visited SJTU, while some SJTU teachers,including Professor Cao Qi-Xin, were invited to MU. In 2006, a graduatestudent of the doctoral course of SJTU was accepted as a researcher for oneyear under the guidance of Professor Nagata.In order to deepen the exchange, President Sumiyoshi, Mr.Ikenoue, Deanof Faculty of Medicine, and Mr.Nagata, Chief librarian of the UniversityLibrary visited SJTU in December 2007 to discuss with President Zhang Jie,and Mr. Zhu Zheng-Gang, Vice-president and Dean of the Faculty ofMedicine. They confirmed that the exchange would be expanded to themedical field in addition to the agricultural and engineering fields. .In December 2009, President Suganuma and some teachers of the Facultyof Medicine visited SJTU with Mr.Nagata, Chief librarian of the UniversityLibrary, for the third renewal of the agreement. They met President ZhangJie, Vice-president Zhang and Presidential aide Yan and concluded the newagreement, which covered the medical field.In November 2010, President Suganuma visited SJTU again and had atalk with Mr.Cheng Guo-Qiang, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine andconcluded a student exchange agreement.In October 2012, President Suganuma was invited to the 60thAnniversary of SJTU Founding and confirmed that two institutions wouldtry to develop the exchange relation.In July 2013, Professor Kawasue organized the Symposium of Robots(Sakura Science) at MU by inviting researchers and students from SJTU,with the events where high school students also joined.In 2004, Professor Nagata was conferred the tilte of ‘Honorary Professor’by SJTU and so was President Suganuma in 2012. In 2011 Professor CaoQi-Xin was conferred the title of ‘Honorary Professor’ and Mr.Xu Wan-Guo,Chief of International Exchange Office, the title of ‘Honorary Researcher’ bythe Center for International Relations, MU.
