- 126 -(5) Opportunities of exchange between Japanese and foreign students(ⅰ) Friendly bowling competition of foreign students* The SEC members and advisors of foreign students were racking their brainsto increase the opportunities of exchange between Japanese and foreignstudents. Foreign students may daily communicate with the Japanesestudents in their advisors’ offices, they also want to develop links ofcommunication both with other foreign students and with Japanese students.For that purpose SEC organized a bowling competition with financial supportof the Support Committee. Regretfully, we had to stop after the secondcompetition without attaining its purpose, because there were only a smallnumber of participants. The following are the reports of two competitionswhich appeared in the Support Committee’s Newsletter :① The friendship bowling competition was held on January 24, 1998.Eleven people, including foreign students, Japanese students, andteachers, participated in the competition. They played three games. Mr.Huang Wen-Chun (China) won the first prize with the total score of 480,and Ms. Kim Minju (Korea) the second prize with 464. The booby prizewas given to Ms. Liu Hui-Shu (Korea). It was nice to see that all theparticipants enjoyed the weekend, deepening their friendship.(The Support Committee’s Newsletter, No.13 [June 30, 1998])② Some foreign and Japanese students and SEC members enjoyed a gettogetheron January 23, 1999. The get-together included a bowlingcompetition and a friendly talk among the participants. There were tenparticipants. In the bowling competition, the defending champion, Mr.Huang Wen-Chun (China) won the first prize with the total score of 416.Ms. Bai Zhen (China) got the second prize and Ms. Kumiko Shibuya gotthe booby prize. After the competition, they had lunch together withpizza in an Italian restaurant nearby.
