- 16 -*MU accepted a total of 43 Evergreen students (30 males + 13 females) from1987 to 2011. The exchange program still continues after 2012.*The first exchange student from Evergreen, Ward Kranz, got married justbefore he came to Miyazaki. He came to Miyazaki with his wife.*Three other Evergreen students came in couples:・Kenneth & Yoko Harvey(1992-1993)・Gay Gorden & Kevin Campbell(1992-1993)・Matthew & Stephanie Hawk(1995-1996)*The SEC of the Faculty of Education applied for aMombusho scholarship (Japanese Studies) inEvergreen students’ place. The Japanesegovernment has usually given MU two scholarshipsa year since 1987, which could reduce the financialburden of Evergreen students.*Those exchange students from Evergreen whocould not get the scholarship received the support ofthe tuition fee from the Support Committee which was established in April 1987. (cf. p. 45)*The first Evergreen student who received the support of tuition fee (\75,600from April to September) was Ellen Lambert (1988-1989).*In April 1991, Mombusho sent MU the announcement of “Tuition waiver forthe exchange students from the sister college with exchange agreement.”Then, the Support Committee decided to delete the article of tuition supportfrom the rules in its 5th general meeting in June 1991. And in 1992 it decidedto establish the scholarship in the 6th general meeting, including the roundtriptraveling expenses, living expenses for two months (\100,000), andinsurance money (\10,000).*But as the financial situation of the Support Committee became worsebecause of the expenditure of the scholarships, the Support Committee had toraise its annual membership dues from \3,000 to \4,000 per share in the 14thgeneral meeting in 2000. From the year 2005, the scholarship took the formof ‘lump sum grant’ soon after their arrival.
