Asthe expenses were very large for DCE students, some students regretfullydeclined the participation just before the program..*Soon after the short-term study program in Miyazaki (2007), DCE wasreorganized as the Education Department of Otago University. Then theofficial procedures for exchange programs were collectively managed bythe International Exchange Department of Otago University. It wasunfortunate that the successful short-term study programs had to endwith this program in Miyazaki.② Faculty exchangeFaculty exchange between MU and DCE was not as active as the onebetween MU and TESC, but some faculty members visited the other party togive a speech to the staff and the students or to discuss the exchangeprograms:*1983 to 1984: Mr. Val Maxwell (professor of Sociology of DCE) came toMiyazaki for his sabbatical leave to study Japanese cultureand history. [the start of the exchange programs]*July 1989: Vice-Principal David Miller paid a courtesy visit to Dean ToraoKiyamura on the way to visit Otaru, a sister city of Dunedin.*January 1992: Kiyoshi Hirase, Chairman of the SEC, paid a courtesy visitto DCE.
