- 47 -University of OtagoUniversity of Otago is the oldest university in New Zealand, established in 1869. Itconsists of four Faculties: Commercial Science, Health Science, Humanities and Science.Faculty of Medicine, highly evaluated in the world, has campuses in Christchurch andWellington. Faculty of Education with the roles of research in education and teachers’training has a Southland school (the former DCE school) in Invercargill. The number ofstudents is 20,000, including 15,000 undergraduates, 2,500 graduates, and 2,600 foreignstudents (as of 2013). It has 3,800 teaching and clerical staff. As 70% of the studentsare from outside the district, the university is completely equipped with dormitorysystem.
