Looking for New Sister Colleges(1) Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort WayneAs the student exchange program with Otago University came to an end, MUhad only one sister college in English speaking countries, TESC in USA. On theother hand, the number of students who wanted to study at a university or acollege in English speaking countries was gradually increasing. Therefore, thefirst thing the SEC had to do was to find new sister colleges in English speakingcountries. Mr. Hiroshi Suga, Chairman of the SEC, and Ms. Keiko Shimojo, anSEC member, visited the following two universities in America to discuss thepossibility of student exchange program.① University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC)Mr. Eiichi Kai, an official of GSO, had a Korean friend working at thisuniversity, who took the trouble to introduce MU delegation to officials ofUNCC in charge of the exchange programs. But UNCC was not as positiveabout exchanging students, though it did not dismiss the possibility.③ Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne (IUFW)MU delegation next visited Indiana University-Purdue University, FortWayne, where Mr. Suga’s goodfriend, Mr. Chris Rutkowski wasworking. Mr. Suga got to knowhim when he got a training (music)at Indiana University. IUFW wasmaking efforts to facilitate theinternational exchanges withAsian universities, but it had notconcluded an exchange agreement < Mr.Rutkowski visited MU (September 17, 2004)>with any university in Japan. MU gave the list of the classes given inEnglish and Japanese language classes for the beginners. In the talk withHead of international language and culture department, the discussion washeld on the concrete points of the possible exchange program between twoinstitutions. The possibility of concluding an agreement was consideredhigh. Through the exchanges of e-mails between those in charge, twoinstitutions agreed to have a sister-relationship. The student exchangeagreement was concluded in March 2013.
