- 62 -*After coming back from China, MU students strongly felt that theyneeded to learn Chinese. They started a course of Chinese on their owninitiative, but it did not last long for various reasons. It was after a fulltimeChinese language teacher, Ms.Kumiko Fujii, arrived in April 2001that formal Chinese language classes started at MU.<Reminiscence (14)~MU students were almost arrested for possession of arms(?)~>A one-week stay in Qingdao impressed MU students strongly. Particularly the bus touraround Shandong Bandao seemed to impress them very much. We went to Taian throughWeifang and Jinan and stayed a night there. Next day we went up Mt.Taishan. On the wayback, we took the same route. I don’t remember whether the university name was markedin large letters on the side of the bus or on the windshield, but the university bus seemedto be given top priority over other cars on the road. We felthappy, but at the same time, feltsorry a little for other cars.On the day when we leftQingdao, we came together inQingdao Airport with manysouvenirs. When we were goingthrough the customs, two MU malestudents were asked to stop. Aftera talk for a while, most souvenirssuch as toy nunchakus and toyswords, were seized by the airportpolice. The teacher, trying to take aphoto, got a warning from a guard.Fortunately the film was notseized. That’s why you can see thephoto on the right. “All’s well thatends well!”(?)*After one year or so, commincation with QU was sometimes cut off.Though it was connected once, but after that communication wascompletely cut off. We had to end the relationship officially in 2005.(2) Soochow University (Taipei, Taiwan)(ⅰ) Mr.Nagatomo’s connectionMr.Nagatomo, a teacher of Japanese language, who arrived at his post in MUfrom Ochanomizu University in April 2003, had a strong connection with
