- 64 -On March 18, soon after Mr.Nagatomoreturned from SU, SEC confirmed that itwould propose the conclusion of theexchange agreement as an agenda to thefaculty meeting which was supposed to beheld on March 20. But SEC found that itwas necessary to get a permission from thesteering committee of the faculty meeting topropose the agenda. The steering committeehad already met on March 12. Therefore, itwas clear that we had to wait until the nextfaculty meeting supposed to be held on April 21. Meanwhile SEC started arranging the date for thesigning ceremony with Ms.Chen Shu-Chuan, Head of Japanese LanguageDepartment, SU through Mr.Nagatomo who was staying at SU.When Mr.Tadahiro Ando, Governor of Miyazaki Prefecture at that time,visited SU in Taipei, he heard that the chorus of the Music Department of SUwanted to be invited to Miyazaki and to exchange with the citizens throughmusic performance. Music Department and Japanese Language Departmentof SU made a plan, involving MU, but the plan was brought to a halt for thefinancial difficulty.The agreement was first signed by MU President Akinobu Sumiyoshi aloneat MU on August 18, which DeanIwamoto and Mr.Hirase brought toSU, where SU President Liu ChaoShinan, Mr.Lin Tsong-Minn, Chairmanof Faculty of Foreign Languageand Dean Iwamoto put theirsignatures.As a result of the arrangement ofthe date, it was decided that thesigning ceremony would be held on September 6.On that day, the signing ceremony was held in the morning. Then in theafternoon, a celebration party was hosted by President Liu Chao-Shinan.
