- 68 -(b) Practice teaching (Graduate students of JLS)*Practice Teaching’ was one of the most important subjects in JLS. It wasdivided into two: Practice teaching in Japan (obligatory); Practiceteaching abroad (optional).*Practice teaching abroad was usually carried out twice a year: in May atSunchon University (Korea); in December at Soochow University.*This subject has also been given as one of the subjects (‘Basic Training ofJLS’) of Language and Culture Course of the Department of Humanitiesand Society. Undergraduate students have participated in the practiceteaching as ‘assistants’ since December 2008.*In the prior study meeting, the students studied about the history ofJapanese language education in Taiwan, and Japanese languageeducation, by using The Report of Practice Teaching edited by former JLSstudents as a study material. They also listened to the stories of formerstudents’ personal experiences.
