- 72 -<Reminiscence (15)~Mr.Cai Mao-Feng, a special professor of Soochow University~>Mr. Cai Mao-Feng was born in 1933. The year after graduating from Cheng GongUniversity in 1961, he came to Japan as a foreign student with Japanese governmentscholarship. Three years later (1965), he got a Master’s degree in Literature from TokyoUniversity of Education. Then he went back to Taiwan to teach at School of Culture(Japanese language and literature). In 1972 he became a teacher at Soochow University,holding the posts of a professor and head of the department. In 1979, he got a doctoraldegree from Tsukuba University. In 2005 he received the Middle Cordon of the Order of theRising Sun from the Japanese government for his contribution to the Japanese languageeducation in Taiwan. In the same year, he was awarded the Academics Contribution Prizefrom the Education Department of Taiwanese government. He is still enthusiastic abouttraining young students to beJapanese language teachers andwith them he has made the historyof Japanese language education inTaiwan. As Mr.Nagatomo had beenfriends with him for a long time, heinvited him to Miyazaki (2007, 2008,2010[March], 2010[December]) andasked him to give lectures on thehistory of Japanese languageeducation in Taiwan to the MUgraduate students who aimed atbeing Japanese language teachers.Four lectures were edited byMr.Nagatomo and some graduatestudents of MU JLS into a booklet, <Mr.Cai Mao-Feng with MU President Sumiyoshi>A Record of Lectures by Cai Mao-Feng (published in March 2011).≪Encounters with Miyazaki (3)≫~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Miyazaki-Soochow ExchangesProfessor Lai Jiin-ChiuehDepartment of Japanese Language and Culture,School of Foreign Languages and Cultures,Soochow University (Taipei, Taiwan)An academic agreement between Soochow University and Miyazaki Universitywas concluded in 2004. At first, the agreement was concluded between the Schoolof Foreign Languages and Cultures of Soochow University and the Faculty ofEducation and Culture of Miyazaki University, then it was upgraded to theuniversity level in 2013.
