- 1 -Ⅰ.Start of International Exchanges(1) Mr.Guy Butterworth’s Contribution(ⅰ) Conferment of honorary doctoral degree“On March 15, 2002, HonoraryDoctoral Degree was given to Mr.Guy Butterworth who was going toretire at the end of this Marchafter he has been worked forMiyazaki University (hereafterMU) for 27 years. He is the firstforeign teacher who received thisdegree. Mr. Butterworth came toMU in 1974 as a foreign teacherwho trained students to be juniorand senior high school English teachers in Miyazaki prefecture. He also helped students energetically intheir international exchanges. He was deeply involved in the exchangeprograms with The Evergreen State College in America and Dunedin Collegeof Education in New Zealand. In addition, he made MU an examinationvenue of TOEFL, which is indispensdable for study abroad, and worked hardas the organizer of the test at MU. To admit his immeasurable contributionto MU and its students, MU confers this Honorary Doctoral Degree on him.In the ceremony, President Fujiwara gave Mr. Butterworth the HonoraryDoctoral Degree and a present.
