There were two places I likedat NCU. The one place was the campusabundantly blessed with nature. Almostevery evening I used to walk around thecampus, which itself was like a naturalpark. During a walk, I enjoyed seeingfireflies, snakes, a fist-sized snail, andsquirrels. I especially enjoyed talking with my friends. The other place was ‘MountainCenter,’ which was the multi-functional space in the dormitory on the top of the themountain. The best place in the Center was a room with a good flooring of ‘No shoes’ andwith soft and fluffy sofas. It was like a fashonable cafe installed with downward lights andan espresso machine. I could relax, reading books, studying and sometimes taking a nap.The dormitory room was narrow and accommodated only two to four students. It wasdifficult for me to relax in the dormitory room, as people could enter the room with theirshoes on. Therefore, the ‘Mountain Center’ was an oasis for me. In addition to thesewonderful places, the strange sense and feeling I had then for the first time were the mostimportant: having an exotic feeling when I was in a restaurant; hearing a various kind ofnoises suddenly sounded like a language; seeing something interesting in photos; comingto think of Japanese people; becoming conscious of history and politics after listening tothe words of friends; feeling sick when I ate food with more horrible smell than I hadexpected; realizing the importance of health. I had many strange senses and feelingsthrough the year. It was good for me to stay at NCU for one year, as I really wanted to getaway from many troublesome things in Japan. I think my choice was right.* From NCU to MUName Period1 Huang Wan-Chun 2010.4~2011.2 ten months
