- 91 -≪Encounters with Miyazaki (5)≫～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～～Memories of the Exchange Program with University of Miyazaki~Expecting the program to continue for a hundred year more~Bang Geug-CholDepartment of Japanese Language and CultureSunchon National University, KoreaIn 1993, Department of Japanese Language and Culture was establishedat Sunchon National University. The following year, it started an exchangeprogram with the Faculty of Education and Culture at the University ofMiyazaki. In the beginning, only two students were sent to Miyazaki, butup to the present a total of several hundred teachers and students have beento Miyazaki.In 2018, we reached the 25th anniversary of the exchange program. Iheard that Sunchon and Miyazaki originally started the exchange programbetween the Faculties of Agriculture, but we have been expanding its rangeuntil it includes the whole university today. We are active every year invarious programs, including long-term and short-term Japanese culturestudy programs, and a forum on Japanese language education (JLEF). I cansay with confidence that both universities have fully performed their dutiesas sister colleges.In the age of internationalization where the necessity of training ofglobally-oriented youth is very high, as a scholar of language I am filled witha sense of mission to assume a responsibility for training our youth. It is truethat the situation atuniversity has recentlychanged a lot and hasbecome more severe inmany aspects. I think oneof the solutions to thisdifficulty can beinternational exchanges. In that sense, the exchange
