General Educational Policies of the Faculty

This faculty has been established based on the educational concept of allowing students to gain basic knowledge of foods, the environment, resources and lives for diverse global judgment and problem-solving, acquiring highly professional knowledge and techniques in agricultural sciences to meet social demands, and become experts capable of contributing to local and international societies through these achievements.

Objectives of the Faculty

  • To provide studies that allow students to address and solve problems with advanced knowledge and techniques in agricultural sciences; supported by basic knowledge of general cultures and sciences, foods, environment, resources and life.
  • To provide opportunities for practical field studies that allow students to become experts capable of contributing to local and global societies in agricultural domains.
  • To provide studies that allow students to assimilate moral expertise as well as enhancing their ability to collect, document, present and communicate data.

Admission Policy of the Faculty

This faculty is engaged in education and research activities in basic fields of science covering: water and soil; national land and Earth; terrestrial and aquatic organisms; genes, individual organisms, population and ecological systems; production of animals, plants and microbes; and food processing and distribution as well as in interdisciplinary applied biosciences, including life sciences, bioengineering and social sciences. With the slogan “Overcome global food and the environmental issues while keeping feet on local ground,” the faculty allows students to flexibly acquire wide-ranging knowledge in agricultural sciences and become ambitious and creative experts with distinguished personalities, who are also capable of acting on international stages.

Curriculum policy of the Faculty

In line with its educational ideas, this faculty offers subjects that allow students to acquire advanced specialized knowledge in foods, the environment, resources and life and become experts capable of contributing to local and international societies with their global judgment and problem-solving abilities. This faculty organizes curricula and implements education as follows:

Organization of the Course

  1. Subjects common to all undergraduate students of the faculty for basic learning abilities and knowledge of wide-ranging general cultures and sciences: initiation seminars, data processing, foreign languages, health education/physical practices; thematic subjects: environ and life, ethics and culture, tasks in contemporary society, and mechanisms of nature; advanced subjects for knowledge of general cultures and sciences.
  2. Subjects common to all undergraduate students of the faculty to acquire basic knowledge for agricultural sciences.
  3. Basic specialized subjects followed by specialized subjects for systematic learning of specialized methodology and knowledge.
  4. English language course throughout the entire undergraduate period.
  5. Subjects of field practice to acquire abilities to contribute to local and international societies.
  6. Subjects to acquire moral expertise.
  7. Graduation thesis that allows students to integrate acquired knowledge and techniques and analyze and solve specific problems.

Educational Policies

  1. Syllabus (planning and summarizing lectures) defines and notifies every student of achievement targets, lecture planning, and achievement evaluation criteria as well as methods for lectures.
  2. Active learning methods such as two-way coursework, group work and oral presentations are used to encourage spontaneous thinking depending on the educational objective of specific coursework.
  3. Achievements are strictly evaluated in line with defined criteria and methods.
  4. Methods of lecture are systematically checked and improved if necessary.

Diploma Policy of the Faculty

This faculty grants a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science or veterinary science to every student who completes the required number of units specified by the department during the required number of registration terms specified in the Regulations for Academic Affairs, passes the jury’s review of his/her graduation thesis and who has acquired the following knowledge, qualities and abilities:

  • Moral expertise,
  • The ability to write, present and communicate in a way to facilitate understanding,
  • The expertise targeted by the department.

Abilities of bachelor’s degree in agricultural science or veterinary science

Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

Specialized knowledge of agriculture (plant production) and its environment and

  • Ability to promote agriculture in harmony with the environment
  • Ability to contribute to societies from an international agricultural perspective

Department of Forest and Environmental Sciences

Wide-ranging knowledge of the functions of forests and greenery and

  • The ability to plan and implement forest and greenery management aimed at using biological resources without damaging a safe and comfortable living environment: protection of the natural environment and land and stable utilization of water resources
  • Abilities to develop environmentally-compatible materials and implement greening based on a general understanding of the properties of trees and fungi and non-biomaterials.

Department of Biochemistry and Applied Biosciences

  • Basic and specialized knowledge in six applied bioscience fields, including applied biochemistry, microbial function development science, botanical function development science, botanic production chemistry, food manufacturing science and food nutritional biochemistry and the ability to apply the same to solve specific problems.
  • Abilities to collect, document, present and communicate data concerning local and international technical problems in applied bioscience fields.
  • Permanent awareness of expert's social contribution and responsibilities and the effects of acquired knowledge and techniques if applied on actual societies and the environment.
  • Abilities to configure problem-solving in applied bioscience fields and proceeding with and completing tasks as planned under given restrictions.
  • Abilities to study continuously and proactively and cope flexibly with changing reality related to applied bioscience fields.

Department of Marine Biology and Environmental Sciences

Wide-ranging specialized knowledge of the environment and flora and fauna in the hydrosphere and

  • The ability to apply it to the production and protection of the aquatic environment
  • The ability to analyze and solve problems in the aquatic environment and food production

Department of Animal and Grassland Sciences

  • Basic and specialized knowledge of stockbreeding of resource circulation and low-input sustainability based on self-sufficient feed and abilities to improve food/feed self-sufficiency ratio, create a harmonious social environment with the natural environment and help solve food/agriculture/rural community problems.

Department of Veterinary Sciences

  • The ability to apply acquired advanced knowledge and techniques to improve human and animal health and welfare
  • The ability to apply veterinary sciences to wide-ranging fields with flawless thought and judgment based on appropriate moral insight
