The Medicine and Veterinary Medicine course at the Graduate School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine was established in April 2010 by isolating the University of Miyazaki portion of the United Graduate School of Veterinary Science at Yamaguchi University and reconfiguring the former doctorate course in medical science at the University of Miyazaki Graduate School of Medicine. The new course is designed to enhance education and research in both medicine and veterinary medicine while at the same time promoting closer collaboration between the two disciplines.

Lecturers in medicine and veterinary medicine work side by side on research and other projects, providing instruction to postgraduate students in their respective fields. This arrangement helps to stimulates academic debate from different perspectives while promoting a broader outlook on research outcomes.

The Graduate School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine equips students with advanced research skills together with the underlying academic knowledge base necessary to engage in independent academic research in the fields of medicine and veterinary medicine. The School is dedicated to the advancement of medicine and veterinary medicine and enhancement of social welfare in general.

The Medicine and Veterinary Medicine program at the Graduate School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine consists of three courses: a training course for physicians with professional skills, a training course for veterinarians with professional skills, and a training course for researchers of medical and veterinary science.

The specialist training program for clinical physicians is designed to nurture clinicians with leadership qualities, advanced specialist skills and a strong research focus backed by an excellent understanding of diagnostic and treatment techniques and ethical principles. Through a range of research activities, trainees acquire up-to-date expertise at the macro and micro levels and establish a solid foundation for future research. This knowledge is used to cultivate specialist skills and leadership skills in clinicians.

The specialist training program for veterinarians is designed to equip trainees with an understanding of specialized diagnostic and treatment techniques while cultivating a strong research focus and leadership skills through theoretical and practical study of medical diagnosis and testing, treatment, and surgical procedures in the field of veterinary medicine.

It is expected that clinicians and veterinarians from the specialist training program for clinical physicians and the specialist training program for veterinarians will occupy leadership positions in academic societies and industry associations in the near future.

The researcher training program equips research trainees with the skills to pursue pure research in the fields of medicine and veterinary medicine at the international level. The program is open to graduates from a variety of disciplines, including but not limited to, medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and pharmacology, who have completed a master’s course and have a strong interest in pure research. This program

constitutes the core of postgraduate education at the Graduate School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Through systematic acquisition of pure research concepts from instructors in a range of different fields, it provides researchers with the research techniques and capacities required to pursue independent and autonomous research at the international level, including a broad base of specialist knowledge spanning both medicine and veterinary medicine.

The Graduate School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine welcomes enthusiastic graduates who are keen to discover the quintessence of modern medicine and veterinary medicine and shed light on the unknown, as well as to those who wish to pursue academic studies at the highest level in the fast-changing medical sphere and utilize this knowledge to improve and enhance diagnostic and treatment practices. We prize enthusiasm, dedication and a willingness to take on new challenges.

Join us as together we embark on the incredible journey of cutting-edge research in medical and veterinary science!
