On July 29, 2023 (Sat), a total of 30 international students and faculty members from the University of Miyazaki and the Organization for International Cooperation participated in the "Citizens' So Odori" dance, one of the events of the "Festival Erekko-cha Miyazaki 2023" held in Miyazaki City.
２０２３年（ねん）７月（がつ）２９日（にち）（どようび）、宮崎市（みやざきし）で行（おこな）われた「まつりえれこっちゃみやざき２０２３」のイベントの１つである「市民総踊り（しみんそうおどり）」に、宮崎大学（みやざきだいがく）の外国人留学生（がいこくじんりゅうがくせい）、その家族（かぞく）及（およ）びGSOの教職員（きょうしょくいん）合（あ）わせて約（やく）３０名（めい）が参加（さんか）しました。
About 3,000 people from various companies, organizations, and groups in Miyazaki Prefecture participated in the "Citizens' So Odori", parading through the city center while dancing to three songs: "Josa-bushi", "Nosan-bushi", and "Samba Imogarabokoto". The festival was not held for the past three years due to measures against COVID19, but it was revived this year with full force.
「市民総踊り（しみんそうおどり）」は、宮崎県内（みやざきけんない）の様々（さまざま）な企業（きぎょう）、団体（だんたい）、グループから約（やく）３０００名（めい）が参加（さんか）し、「じょうさ節（ぶし）」、「のさん節（ぶし）」、「サンバいもがらぼくと」の３曲（きょく）に合（あ）わせて踊（おど）りながら市街地（しがいち）を進（すす）むものです。新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）対策（たいさく）によって、過去（かこ）３年（ねん）は実施（じっし）されませんでしたが、今年（ことし）からついに復活（ふっかつ）しました。
At an on-campus practice session held prior to the event, the international students practiced the dance while learning from faculty members that each choreography incorporates traditional Japanese farming movements and what "imogarabokuto" means.
留学生達（りゅうがくせいたち）は、事前（じぜん）に行（おこな）われた練習会（れんしゅうかい）で、各振付け（かくふりつけ）に日本（にほん）の伝統的（でんとうてき）な農作業（のうさぎょう）の動作（どうさ）などが盛（も）り込（こ）まれていることや、「いもがらぼくと」とはどういう意味（いみ）かなどについて教職員（きょうしょくいん）から学（まな）びながら、踊り（おどり）の練習（れんしゅう）を行いました。
On the day of the event, all dancers, wearing miniature flags of their respective countries and the university's original tenugui (hand towel), were able to dance energetically while being watched by spectators along the route.
当日（とうじつ）は、各出身国（かくしゅっしんこく）のミニ国旗（こっき）と、大学（だいがく）オリジナル手（て）ぬぐいを身（み）につけ、沿道（えんどう）の観客（かんきゃく）の声援（せいえん）を受（う）けながら、全員（ぜんいん）元気（げんき）よく踊（おど）りきることができました。
International students who participated in the festival said, "It was a great memory for me to experience a Japanese festival. I was happy to hear the cheers and applause from the audience. and "It was interesting to learn the meaning behind the dance choreography. Through participation in Erekko-ya-Miyazaki, participants were able to enhance their understanding of Japanese culture by actually using all five senses.
参加（さんか）した留学生（りゅうがくせい）からは、
「日本（にほん）のお祭（まつ）りを体感（たいかん）でき、良（よ）い思い出（おもいで）となった。」、「観客（かんきゃく）からの声援（せいえん）や拍手（はくしゅ）がうれしかった。」、「踊（おど）りの振付け（ふりつけ）に込（こ）められた意味（いみ）を知（し）ることができ、興味深（きょうみぶか）かった。」等（など）の感想（かんそう）が寄（よ）せられるなど、えれこっちゃみやざきへの参加（さんか）を通（つう）じて、実際（じっさい）に五感（ごかん）を使（つか）いながら日本文化（にほんぶんか）への理解（りかい）を高（たか）めることができました。
The University of Miyazaki will continue to encourage international students to actively participate in various events in Miyazaki Prefecture, and will do its best to promote mutual understanding of different cultures not only among the students themselves but also in the local community.
