Assistant Professor TT Higashi received “BEST PRESENTER AWARD” at MATERIALS OCEANA2023 held from September 26 to 29, 2023.

Title

Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting Process by Visible-light-absorbing Semitransparent Tantalum Nitride Thin Film Photoelectrodes
Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting Process by Visible-light-absorbing Semitransparent Tantalum Nitride Thin Film Photoelectrodes

Summary

We developed a two-stage tandem cell using a semitransparent photoelectrode as the top cell and a solar cell connected to an electrocatalyst as the bottom cell. This PV-PEC (photovoltaic-assisted photoelectrochemical) cell splits water into hydrogen and oxygen only by solar irradiation. In this talk, we describe the construction of a PV-PEC cell using nitride photoelectrodes as the top cell, and report the achievement of world-leading solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency (STH) in a complete water splitting reaction based on photocatalytic materials.

Comments on winning the award

I am delighted to accept this award.
I express my gratitude to everyone involved.
I will continue to do my best in my research activities to further improve the efficiency of solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion.
