Guide

Infectious Disease Research Unit (IDRU) is a joint research center with facilities of BSL1, 2, and 3 labs and various equipment and devices, which is suitable for infectious disease research. It is also used for vet students' education and vets trainings. IDRU is widely available on requests from both on and off-campus users. As this unit includes facilities containing infectious agents, all users are required to register every academic year to use IDRU and follow the Users Guidelines for IDRU for safety use of the unit.

The registration fee is charged to each laboratory in each quarter. Renewal is done on 1st April every year.
Use of some specific machineries will be charged according to the frequency of the use. For more details click here.

Laboratory consumables including reagents shall be prepared and brought in by users.

Registration Process

As described above, all users are required to register and follow restrictions for biosafety. Users who are to start experiments at IDRU need to submit application form to IDRU office a week prior to the first day of the use. Experiments using BSL3 facility, animal rooms, or recombinant DNA shall be requested additional certificates. Please contact IDRU office in advance.

1.Application

SubmitApplication Form for Use of IDRU (Form 2) and Research Plan (Form 5) to IDRU office located 3rd floor Vet bldg. Following instructions of application process will be given at the office. See Users Guidelines 3 for IDRU to fill in Form 5.

2.Approval

Applicant will be registered after the evaluation by IRDU management committee.

3.Biosafety Orientation of IDRU

IDRU gives Biosafety Orientation in Feb and occasionally as needed. It is mandatory for all uses to attend the orientation at least once a year. Contact IDRU office for the date of the orientation.

4.Card key issuing

Card key to enter IDRU will be issued for new users who completed all the procedure above.

5.At IDRU

■Entering IDRU

Please make sure that all users must wear lab coats and shoes attached the Unit to avoid bringing in and out microorganisms unintentionally. See Users Guidelines for IDRU 4.

■Lab incident /accident report

All incidents including "near miss" incidents need to be reported regardless of the causes. This report is not to pursue the liabilities of users but to analyze the incidents for recurrence prevention and facility maintenance. Click here download the report form. ■ Facility booking

You need to use on-line booking for some facilities.Joint-use facilities(on-line reservation sysytem)To start using on-line booking, you are requested to register first. Please contact your supervisor and fill in form. Please refer to handbook delivered at Biosafety Orientation.
