International students must complete the following procedures in order to live in Japan.
All international students enrolled at the UoM must obtain a "Student" status of residence.
For details, please contact the Immigration Bureau or the Global Support Office (GSO).
If your status of residence is not "Student," there may be cases in which you cannot be treated as a foreign student.
After arriving in Japan, promptly report your address at the Miyazaki City Hall or any general branch office.
Within 14 days after your place of residence is decided

If you have changed your address due to a move, etc., promptly report the change to the Miyazaki City Hall or your general branch office.

※If you have lost your residence card, apply for renewal or reissuance at the "Miyazaki Branch Office of Fukuoka Immigration Bureau".
Once you have completed the registration of your place of residence, you are also required to enroll in the National Health Insurance program. If you have National Health Insurance, you will only have to pay 30% of the medical fees for your medical treatment when you receive care at a hospital.
※Please also complete the procedures for "Issuance of Temporary Insurance Card" and "Insurance Tax Declaration (for international students)".
Students 20 years of age or older should apply for the Special Payment System for Students.
All residents of Japan are required to pay National Pension Insurance premiums from the time they turn 20 years old. However, for students, there is a "Special Payment System for Students" that allows them to defer payment of the premiums during their school years upon approval.
Postgraduate Research Students and Special auditor students apply for the "General Exemption" instead of the "Special Payment System for Students".
※Application is required every year.
Once you have opened an account at a bank, you can make automatic payments for electricity, telephone, water, gas, WiFi, NHK TV reception fees, tuition, dormitory fees, etc.
You can have the bank issue a bank card so that you conveniently use cash dispensers (CDs) and automated teller machines (ATMs).
*For those who are in the process of applying for a residence card and have not yet been issued one, a "Certificate of Residence" (300 yen per copy) can be issued in place of the card. Certificates of Residence can also be issued at the Kibana Regional Center (TEL 0985-58-1111).
