Note: Prior consent from a prospective academic advisor is required before applying. Please follow the steps outlined below to initiate contact.
Research students may conduct academic research under the supervision of a faculty advisor in a specific field. Please note that research students are not awarded degrees or academic credits upon completion. Many applicants to graduate programs begin as research students prior to taking entrance examinations.
In principle, admission is offered at the beginning of each semester (April or October).
1. Search for a prospective academic advisor using the University of Miyazaki Researcher Database. For Engineering faculty advisors, also refer to the Special Program Guidelines for Engineering.
2. Contact your desired advisor and obtain preliminary consent. Submit the following documents when making contact (applications without these documents will not be considered):
If the advisor's email address is unavailable, contact Global Support Office (GSO) instead. Be sure to include the name of the desired faculty or graduate school and the advisor's name. Email: ryugaku-s[at]of.miyazaki-u.ac.jp ※Replace [at] with @
3. If consent is granted, check the latest application guidelines for the relevant graduate school on the Graduate Admission page.
4. Admission as a research student (6 to 12 months). ※Applicants may also apply directly to graduate programs without enrolling as research students.
5. Apply for the graduate school entrance examination during your research period. ※Application procedures vary by program.
6. Enroll as a graduate student upon successful admission.
(Subject to slight changes; please confirm with the relevant office.)
Please contact the Academic Affairs & Student Support Section of your desired faculty. For the Faculty of Medicine, contact the Medical Education Division.
