The exchange program is for students who are members of UoM's Inter-University exchange partner universities and wish to study at UoM. Exchange students must be enrolled at their home university for the duration of their exchange period (until they return to their home country) and are required to pay tuition fees to their home university. Nominations and applications for the exchange program must also be submitted through their home university. For details, please contact the Global Support Office (GSO).
Differs by faculty. Most lectures at UoM are conducted in Japanese. Therefore, it is desirable to have a JLPT N2 level of Japanese. For details, please refer to the application guidelines for exchange students sent to your home university.
Scholarship recipients by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) are referred to as government-sponsored international students. Please refer toTuition and Scholarships for details on applications, scholarship amounts, etc.
This scholarship is available to privately financed overseas students (international students who do not receive support from the Japanese government, foreign governments, etc.).Please refer toTuition and Scholarships for information on scholarships handled by the University.
Those who have passed the entrance examination and have been admitted to UoM will need to complete the following arrival procedures.
All international students enrolled at UoM must obtain "Student" status of residence.
For details, please contact the Immigration Bureau or the GSO.
If your status of residence is not "Student," there may be cases in which you cannot be treated as a foreign student.
*1 We will start your application for the Certificate of Eligibility after you complete the enrollment procedures.
*2 It is not possible to change the status of residence to "Student" after entering Japan as a "Temporary Visitor". Please be sure to obtain a "Student" visa before coming to Japan.
The activities of those who stay in Japan with a "Student" status of residence are limited by "law" to study or research. If you unavoidably need to engage in part-time work activities, you must obtain permission to engage in activities other than those permitted under the status of residence. Part-time work is allowed up to 28 hours per week (up to 8 hours per day during long vacations). Be sure to submit a part-time job notification and time schedule to the GSO. For details, please contact the GSO.
*UoM generally does not allow government-sponsored international students to work part-time (although teaching assistants and research assistants within the university are permitted)
When you wish to leave Japan for a short period of time to go home or travel abroad, you must talk to your advisor and the Academic Affairs/Student Support Section of your faculty (or the Academic Affairs Section of the Medical Human Resource Development Division for the Faculty of Medicine). Please also inform the GSO of this fact.
International students who wish to bring in family members are responsible for their own arrangements.
*There are a limited number of family dormitories available at UoM. International students who are considering bringing in family members should consult with the GSO.
