Faculty of Engineering aims to be a faculty that is deeply rooted in Miyazaki Prefecture while keeping a global perspective. The faculty focuses on the education of personnel who will be able to rise to new challenges with the accelerating progress of science and technology.
It also emphasizes internationally acclaimed academic research, while ensuring a substantial intellectual contribution to the local community through the development of local industries. The decision has been reached to restructure the faculty as a single department with six programs, starting from April 2021, with the aim of fostering specialists capable of also functioning as generalists. This serves the purpose of developing scientific technology that can meet the challenges of the global environment in the 21st century. Further, we cultivate a high level of awareness of humanitarian issues among our students.

Department of Engineering

Applied Chemistry Program

This program aims to develop human resources involved in the production of materials and energy and the conservation of the global environment and ecosystems to realize sustainable and affluent lifestyles through academic research ranging from the exploration of basic principles in chemistry to the development of advanced technologies. The program provides education that covers the entire range of fields, from basic chemistry, mathematics, and information to specialized and advanced applied chemistry, life sciences, and materials.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Program

This program is designed to educate civil engineers who are capable of planning, constructing, and managing an "earth-friendly and comfortable society and environment" from a comprehensive perspective, with a background in the natural, social, and information sciences.
In addition to the subjects of construction engineering, environmental engineering, and planning, the program provides systematic and practical education to develop engineering design skills.

Applied Physics and Engineering Program

To realize the future of a super-smart society, the rapid advancement of information science technologies such as AI and IoT, as well as optical, quantum, and semiconductor technologies, is essential. This program provides education that combines fundamental sciences such as physics and mathematics with other specialized fields. It aims to foster engineers and researchers who can develop practical technologies from acquired knowledge, solve complex problems, and maintain a high standard of ethics.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program

This program offers students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals and applications of electrical and electronic engineering. Students can engage in cutting-edge research and development in the fields of renewable energy, medical and bioengineering, and smart energy solutions. The program provides education that systematically organizes basic subjects such as mathematics, physics, and English, as well as specialized subjects, experiments, and exercises, to educate human resources who can play an active role in society.

Mechanical and Intelligent Engineering Program

Advanced manufacturing requires knowledge of digital technology in addition to traditional mechanical engineering. This program provides basic education in mathematics and physics, as well as specialized knowledge in mechanical engineering and digital technology including artificial intelligence, which will serve as the foundation for creative thinking, for nurturing mechanical engineers in the next generation. The program also provides education to cultivate logical expression and communication skills through experiments and practical training.

Information and Communication Technology Program

In this program, students acquire expertise in the fundamentals of information and communication engineering and its application fields in order to keep pace with rapidly developing information and communication technologies. The program also cultivates practical skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating information and communication systems necessary for the development of real systems. These are taught through a systematic curriculum with a good balance of lectures and exercises.
